“I first met Mark when he consulted on some design work at a previous magazine I edited. When I left to launch my own publication, DRiNK, Mark was someone I was very keen to work with again - not only because I had noticed his great eye for design, but because he was efficient, cooperative and quick to turn ideas and requests into reality.
The brief for DRiNK was to create a masthead and layout template for a magazine which would be China's first bilingual drinks industry publication. We wanted something that would be bold and masculine, but still fun, just like global bar culture. We also needed a publication that had an international feel to attract premium spirit and wine brands as advertisers.
Mark's work on DRiNK surpassed our expectations. He not only delivered very engaging solutions for typography, grid layout and graphic style, but went beyond that by helping to define a cover theme. Ultimately our covers have been crucial to the success of the magazine, and are regularly commented upon... exactly what you want from your design. Inside the feature pages are also instantly recogniseable as DRiNK magazine thanks to his grid template, which also skilfully navigates the problems involved in being a bilingual publication.
